Notion has recently unveiled an AI feature named Q&A, it is a knowledge chatbot. Like a librarian for your “second brain”. It is a chatbot in a nutshell, and not too different from Perplexity, a tool I love dearly for contextual search on the internet.
Albeit frantic organisation and categorisations of every bits of interesting information I found in Notion, I rarely retrieve what I look for quickly - after all, humans are notoriously poor at categorisation. This feature liberates me from such constraints, allowing me to deposit all valuable discoveries into Notion. The Q&A feature then efficiently summarises this information, pinpoints its location for further exploration, and provides recommendations or guidance based on a synthesis of all related topics.
Why is this significant? It fundamentally alters our content consumption habits and search methodologies, with profound implications for the advertising sector. This is a monumental shift. Traditionally, content creators and businesses have depended on advertising or affiliate revenues, which depends on engagement metrics like page views (PVs) and click-through rates (CTRs).
However, this novel method of engaging with content, enables users to bypass traditional webpage navigation and multiple screen transitions to forage information. Recall the backlash against Facebook and other social platforms for diverting traffic away from media outlets? This development could exacerbate such tensions.
We may be on the cusp of a new business model, one that could redefine the revenue model landscape just as Google's SEO did.
Enter what I term "Context Engine Optimisation" (CEO)—a new paradigm where content creators and websites tailor their offerings to the nuanced, contextual inquiries of users, catering to the sophisticated algorithms of modern search bots.
